Kathryn A. Buckner

Kathryn A. Buckner began practicing environmental law in Chicago, Illinois in 1989, first with the law firm of Sidley & Austin and then with Foley & Lardner. In 1994, Kathy relocated to Michigan and practiced with Seyburn Kahn Ginn Bess and Serlin P.C. in Southfield, Michigan. Kathy created Buckner Law Group in April 2002.

Before commencing the practice of law, Kathy served as judicial clerk for the Honorable James F. Holderman, Jr., U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. She is a member of the American Bar Association and the State Bar of Michigan, and has been admitted to practice in Michigan and Illinois and before the United States District Courts of the Northern District of Illinois and the Eastern District of Michigan.

Kathy has been an adjunct Professor of Law at Wayne State University School of Law, where she taught environmental law. She serves on the Board of Directors of the East Michigan Chapter of the Air and Waste Management Association, and is a member of several groups and associations:

  • American Bar Association Section on Natural Resources, Energy, and Environmental Law
  • Environmental Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan
  • Michigan Water Environmental Association

Kathryn Buckner received her J.D., cum laude, in 1987 from University of Illinois College of Law, where she was a Harno Scholar and served as Administrative Editor of the University of Illinois Law Review. Kathy obtained her B.S. in Organizational Behavior, with high honors, in 1982 from the University of Illinois College of Business Administration, where she was a James Scholar and a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Honorary Business Fraternity.

News

June 2005: Kathryn A. Buckner was appointed Chair of the Fall Conference of the East Michigan Chapter of the Air & Waste Management Association. The conference will be held on December 1, 2005 at the VistaTech Center at Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan.

July 2005: Kathryn A. Buckner was appointed Deputy Chair of the Environmental, Natural Resources and Energy Law Committee of the General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Section of the American Bar Association. As Deputy Chair, Kathryn will work with other committee members to provide information and assistance regarding environmental issues to solo practitioners and small law firms who may not have environmental expertise.
